Bonds Passes Aaron
At 753, suddenly Bonds is now two away from tying the Hammer's Major League Baseball career-best 755 and three away from passing him into first place on the all-time list. And the next stop for the Giants is Milwaukee, where Aaron began and ended his Hall of Fame career, followed by a series in San Francisco against Atlanta, the city where Aaron passed Babe Ruth in 1974 to set the record.
Friday night July 20th was the 31st anniversary of Aaron hitting his 755th and last homer at County Stadium, Milwaukee which was once situated in what is now a parking lot adjacent to Miller Park. Bonds went 0-4 with a walk in the Giants 8-4 win over the first place Brewers. The Brewers lead in the N.L. central is now only 2 games over the streaking Cubs who have won 6 of 8 since the All-Star break.
Bonds leads the Major Leagues in on-base percentage (.497), walks (96) and intentional walks (30). His .577 slugging percentage is fourth in the National League. Bonds has 19 Home Runs good enough for 13th in MLB this season while batting .282
MILWAUKEE -- Barry Bonds ended the Giants' seven-game road trip just as it began: out of the starting lineup for Sunday's closer of a three-game series against the Brewers.
Bonds said he was available to pinch-hit, and manager Bruce Bochy said the move was precautionary after the slugger, who is two homers away from Hank Aaron's Major League Baseball all-time home run record of 755, played the last three games in a row.
A solo home run off Florida's Rick Vanden Hurk brought Barry Bonds within one of Hank Aaron's all-time record Friday July 27, 2007.
A-Rod youngest to 500
Alex Rodriguez became the youngest player in major league history to hit 500 home runs, sending the first pitch he saw Saturday just past the foul pole in left field.
Rodriguez stood at home plate for a second, waiting to see if his first-inning drive off Royals starter Kyle Davies would stay fair. He threw his hands in the air after the ball landed in the seats and began trotting around the bases with a wide grin on his face as the Yankee Stadium crowd cheered wildly.
When he reached the plate, he hugged Derek Jeter and Bobby Abreu, who both scored on the landmark home run. His teammates were already on the field and he embraced several of them on his way to the dugout.
The crowd buzzed and roared again when A-Rod stuck his head out of the dugout for a curtain call.
After he took his seat the bench next to Jeter, the Yankees captain reached out and playfully rubbed A-Rod's head as the two superstars laughed.
His homer came eight days after he celebrated his 32nd birthday. Rodriguez surpassed Jimmie Foxx (32 years, 338 days) as the youngest player to reach 500 homers. A-Rod is the 22nd player to reach the mark, the second this season behind Frank Thomas.
His 500th came in his 1,855th game. Only two players took fewer games to reach 500: Mark McGwire (1,639) and Babe Ruth (1,740).
Rodriguez also became the third player to accomplish the feat as a Yankee and the second to do it in the Bronx. Babe Ruth hit his 500th at Cleveland on Aug. 11, 1929, and Mickey Mantle reached the mark at home against Baltimore on May 14, 1967.
But in 1996, his first full season in the big leagues, he hit 36 home runs. And after hitting 23 in 1997, he hasn't fallen short of 30 since. His seven seasons of 40 or more home runs are tied for fifth in major league history, and in 2001 he became only the fourth player with 50 homers and 200 hits in a season.
A-Rod's first home run came on June 12, 1995, against Tom Gordon and Kansas City. He hit No. 100 in August 1998, No. 200 in May 2001 with Texas and No. 300 in April 2003 with Texas. Number 400 came on June 8, 2005, against Milwaukee during his second season with the Yankees.
He hit 189 home runs with Seattle, 156 with Texas and has 155 with New York. He is one of only three players, along with Reggie Jackson and Darrell Evans, to hit 100 home runs for three different teams.
Rodriguez leads the majors with 36 this season, already surpassing the 35 he hit last year.
"Fifty home runs doesn't seem to be an issue," manager Joe Torre said recently. "Fifty home runs. That's incredible. You're talking about his age, you're talking about him hitting in the 50s -- in a couple of years he'll be going for No. 600."

NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez launched home run No. 497 on Saturday at Yankee Stadium in a 17-5 victory in the second game of a doubleheader, then he responded to the crowd's curtain call with a wave from the top of dugout steps.
The two-run shot to left field came off Tampa Bay right-hander Jay Witasick and placed Rodriguez just three home runs shy of becoming the 22nd member of the exclusive 500-homer club.
A-Rod's 33rd home run of the season -- plus a sacrifice fly later in the game -- gave him 96 RBIs, and he leads the Major Leagues in both categories.
Rodriguez's march toward No. 500 has worked its way over Tampa Bay. Saturday night's blast was A-Rod's fifth against the D-Rays this season, and gave him a total of 30 against them.
He hit No. 496 -- his 32nd this season -- on July 16 against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. Rodriguez hit homer No. 495 -- his 31st this season -- on July 12 at Tampa Bay in the Yankees' first series back from the All-Star break.
Before the Midsummer Classic, Rodriguez had totaled 30 home runs, setting a personal record and leading the Majors. He also topped the charts in runs and RBIs at the break with 79 and 86, respectively, making him the first Yankee to lead all three categories since Mickey Mantle did so in 1956.
A-Rod hits 498 Sunday July 22, 2007
Number 499 comes on July 25, 2007
Youngest ever to 500 August 4, 2007
Griffey Jr. Hits # 600
Ken Griffey Jr. will become the 6th memeber of the 600 Home Run Club. Joining Barry Bonds, Hank AAron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, and Sammy Sosa as the only members. At the pace in which A-Rod is on he should become the 7th member sometime in mid 2009. Junior would be chasing down Aaron and Bonds at this point in his career if it were not for a couple of injury prone seasons during his early years with the Reds. Griffey Sr. played ball in Cincinnati as part of the Big Red Machine in the 1970's. Later in his career he played with Seattle and joined his son on the field. The Griffey's became part of history when Father and son hit back to back homeruns.
Griffey hits 588 exactly where Sammy Sosa started the season. With 12 home runs shy of 600, Jr. is poised to become the 6th memeber of the elite "600" Home-Run Club.
